I’m alive. I’ve been dealing with finals, work, losing my first set of kids to kindergarten, my family getting ready to move, me waiting to get denied to colleges, and me deciding where I will be. I was dead set on staying for the last three days, however, now I’m a little hesitant. My lead/mentor teach was fired today by Director Lady and her class is the singular...

Life has been ridiculous, mostly negative but here’s some highlights:
Family money issues again
Work being extra fun and busy
Classes being boring
Hanging out with people actually
Being set up with a girl in which we both like each other but our schedules make it impossible for us to even see each other
Getting a knife pulled on me last night for accidentally touching a guy’s...

Cooking in the Classroom
from-student-to-teacher:
I know allergies are a major concern but the mathematic/cultural/sensory experiences from it are irreplaceable in my opinion.
How do all of you feel about cooking in the classroom?

Mid-break update
I’m currently in New Mexico watching Colbert. Got 5 shirts from Goodwill for $17 yesterday. Had my grandpa explain all sorts of electrical and physics-related topics because he is ridiculous. My brother and I have been helping fixing things around my grandpa’s house.
I’ve been liking any post that may be of interest to be viewed at a later time, so yeah.

Wow, you’re quite busy. Does it ever really slow down for us educators? Sometimes I feel like my brain is spinning…
That list was a cut-down, main points list. False, time is always moving and never slows down. Truth, my brain is always in motion. :)

I wrote some last night. When I edit it I hope it to be more spoken word, less words on a page.
I’m getting increased attention at work and I wish it would stop. I’ve realized I’m happy just doing my job, but when I get attention for being the only person to correctly act in the situation where a child has a Grand Mal seizure, or there’s a picture of me in the school newspaper working with...

Disabled or Diagnosed?
For decades people have fought for their rights: women, African Americans, Immigrants, LGBTQ, and disability to name a few. The struggle for rights or equality is never ending and should never halt.
Currently, I see huge debates about the word disability-whether it is okay to use it or if it is taboo; whether or not a person can be proud of their disability, even how to treat a person and regard...

How I Flirted with another Teacher Today
I told kids to chase her instead of me. She told them to chase me in return. We proceeded to send a few kids back and forth for about three minutes.

Touching
When teaching children or really any age-range of people, the use of touch or lack thereof is an effective way to show approval, understanding, or means by which to regaining one’s attention. Touching an individual under certain circumstances is appropriate and in other instances is not. Touching someone is almost never referred to as “touching,” unless that is by a child. The...

The Quiet Teacher?
During a workshop on Desired Results Developmental Profiles, mentor Director lady brought up a quote about teaching, “The quiet teacher wasn’t a good teacher for the loud and rowdy students because she couldn’t understand them, but give her a quiet child and she was the best teacher that child could hope for.”
I’ve been thinking quite a bit about that quote lately...
